Anniversary Adventuring

June 16, 2015

We celebrated our first anniversary a few weekends ago in Las Vegas. It was such a fun weekend spending some quality time just the two of us. We ate some good food, relaxed by the pool, and did a little exploring. Initially we had planned on spending some time in Red Rock Canyon, unfortunately it was just too hot to do any climbing or hiking. It is only about a twenty minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip, since it is so close we decided to drive out one night to take a look. There is a short scenic drive with a few great lookouts, the drive is really pretty with some very interesting rock formation and colors. We definitely would like to return and explore a few hikes and do some climbing.

On our drive back to Salt Lake, we decided to stop at the Valley of Fire. It is an hour outside of Las Vegas. It is about exactly in between Vegas and Mesquite. We had seen photos of the Fire Wave so I told Blake that we HAD to stop and do a little hiking. It was definitely worth the stop. The Fire Wave was about a two mile hike. You HAVE to take water, I didn't and I got a little heat exhaustion so we weren't able to do much more hiking. On our way out of the park we stopped at the Elephant Rock, this formation is really neat. We even saw a desert bighorn sheep. Cool! We also want to return to this park and spend a little more time hiking through the red rocks. Next time I will be sure to take WATER!

We finished off our anniversary by eating the top of our wedding cake. Surprisingly it was pretty good and we even ate another piece the next day! This has been the best year and I'm so happy I get to spend my life adventuring with this cute boy.
