New Year's Hiking

January 11, 2016

Over the break, we had been talking to some of our friends, Aubrey and Logan, about going on a short weekend getaway. The only weekend that worked with all of our schedules was New Year's weekend, which was great because we didn't have any plans. We hit the road early New Year's Eve morning and didn't look back. Neither Blake or I had been to Snow Canyon so we thought that would be a fun activity that afternoon. It was very pretty with some fun short hikes. Unfortunately it was super windy and we were all pretty cold so we didn't spend too much time there. We'd like to spend more time exploring this area in the future.

When we got back to the hotel, we were all slightly frozen so the hot tub was calling us. We spent the evening playing games in our hotel room and eating yummy treats. It was a very low key New Year's and we seriously loved it. The first day of 2016 was spent exactly how it should have been spent; enjoying the great outdoors at Zion National Park. We woke up early and hiked Canyon Overlook. We try to do this hike every time we are in Zion. It is a favorite of ours.

As we were driving down the canyon, we saw these incredible icicles in lower Pinecreek. We took an impromptu side trip up the canyon to get a closer look at the enormous icicles. The creek was frozen over in some areas so we played a game of "who can toss the rock closest to an object".

Since it was such a cold day we didn't get to do any longer hikes. Weeping Rock is a very interesting place to see in the winter. It is completely frozen over, that also includes the trail so everyone was sliding and slipping all over the place; it was pretty entertaining.

Saturday morning, on our way out of town, we drove through the incredible Kolob Canyon. It is unbelievable that a place this beautiful is only 15 minutes off of a I-15. It was a great start to 2016, I'm so stoked to see what other adventures are in store for us.
