Wild Washington

One day, we wanted to go hiking but unfortunately the weather wouldn't let up. We talked to one person who said that they hadn't seen rain that bad in the twenty years they lived in Seattle. Since it was raining so badly we decided to do a little drive to Snoqualmie Falls. This waterfall was absolutely beautiful. There was a lot of fog because of the rain which I thought made it look even more amazing. The fog and the pine trees are my favorite. There are two viewpoints at the top and at the bottom, from the top we could hardly see the falls because of all the fog. Once we got to the bottom we were amazed. 

Tulip Town was on our way to one of our destinations. We hadn't really planned to stop but saw some signs for the tulips. I told Blake that we have to see these and I am so glad that I did. We were a few weeks too early for the actual tulip festival but just seeing a couple fields like this was worth the stop. 

Deception pass was about an hour and a half drive from Seattle. It is a bridge that connects Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island. It is incredible. There are a few trails that we wandered around for a little bit and saw the bridge from different angles. We also walked across the bridge, which was a little bit scary. This road is pretty busy so walking across on a small sidewalk while a diesel drives by made me pretty nervous. Once we got to the other side there is a path down to a rocky beach. It is a pretty short walk and I am so glad we walked down there. It was so fun to sit on the beach and talk to Blake about life. We even saw a few seals swimming by which was neat! 

We rode a ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend. This was our first ferry ride in Seattle and we loved it. Port Townsend was such a charming town. The buildings were all old and had a victorian style to them. We found a little cafe here and ate lunch. 

Our next stop was in the town of Sequim to see the Dungeness Spit. The Dungeness Spit is the longest natural sand spit in the United States. It is five and a half miles long. There is a short hike down to the beach. The hike is very beautiful, the trail is through huge trees and tons of green moss. The beach was a little chilly. It felt a little weird to have our coats on at the beach. We spent a couple hours throwing rocks into the ocean and drawing things in the sand. Fun fact, the island that you can see in the distance is Victoria, Canada. 

We weren't initially planning on stopping at Olympic National Park because it is such a far drive and we didn't think that we would have enough time. We were in Sequim and realized that Olympic National Park was only about a half hour drive further, so we decided to go for it because we still had a few hours of daylight. This area might be the most beautiful area I have ever been, around every turn I was in awe with the green moss and pine trees. We were wishing we had more time to spend here. This national park is a little different from others I have been too, it is so spread out and it is on a major highway. There are towns along the highway which breaks up the national park. Our first stop here was Lake Crescent. It was a huge lake and the water was so blue. By this time we were running out of daylight so we made a quick stop at Madison Falls, this was a very short walk from the parking lot. We were just walking along the trail and turned a corner and saw the falls. WOW! So pretty. 

There are two ways to get back to Seattle from Olympic National Park and we couldn't decided if we wanted to take the ferry from Bainbridge Island or if we wanted to drive through Tacoma. We looked up the ferry times and realized that it would be a short wait to get on the ferry so we decided to go with the ferry. We were both so glad that we got to ride the ferry at night. Seeing the city all lit up at night was breathtaking.
