Top Ten Day Hikes in Utah

April 7, 2015

A few days ago, Blake and I were discussing some of our favorites hikes. We have been on some great hikes together, so I thought I would compile a list of our top ten day hikes in Utah! Here they are in no specific order:

The Subway (Zion National Park)- A couple weekends ago, we did this hike and fell in love with it. It is about a nine mile, moderately strenuous hike. To finally see the famous Subway in person was incredible.

Angel's Landing (Zion National Park)- One of the more famous hikes in Utah, as it rightfully should be. The long switchbacks and chained spine are well worth the strain.  The view at the top is unbelievable.

Queen's Garden and Navajo loop (Bryce Canyon National Park)- A short, three and a half must-do hike in Bryce Canyon. This hike takes you into the heart of the hoodoos and red rock formations.

Cassidy Arch (Capitol Reef National Park)- This hike is a hidden gem in Capitol Reef National Park. Working your way to the top from the Grand Wash, you can walk right onto the arch. Awesome!

Delicate Arch (Arches National Park)- A Utah classic, this three mile hike is a definite must-do. Just look at it! If you haven't done this hike, you should probably do it. Like now!

Fiery Furnace (Arches National Park)- There are two ways to do this hike: one with a guide and the other with a permit on your own. We did this hike with a guide, and it was fun to get to see the hidden arches and to learn about red rock geology. We plan to explore it again without a guide.

Peekaboo and Spooky Gulch (Escalante)- This two mile hike was such a blast. We encountered standing water throughout Peekaboo Gulch, which added to the adventure. Be sure to check out the double arch at the beginning of Peekaboo.

Albion Basin (Little Cottonwood Canyon)- If you love wildflowers, then this is your place. July is the best time to see these beauties. We hiked to Cecret Lake and will be doing this hike again during wildflower season.

Bald Mountain (Uinta Mountains)- Mirror Lake has become a new favorite camping spot for us. This hike has a great overlook of several lakes and is only about 4 miles long. Perfect for a morning walk.

Calf Creek Falls (Escalante)- This is one of the greatest places to visit if you are down in Escalante. It is about a three mile walk to the falls of this desert oasis. The water is colder than it appears.

There are so many more cool day hikes in Utah, and I will most likely be changing this as we do more and more adventuring.

  1. Hi Meg,
These look great and I've only done a few. Could you add the name of the park(s) these hikes are in? We're going to explore Zion today.

  2. Ann,
Yes! I will add them right now. The two that are in Zion are Angel's Landing and The Subway. I heard you are meeting my parents in Bryce Canyon this weekend, wish we could make it down!
